If we have given the time of 24 hours to solve the paper then maximum aspirant will easily crack the CPC, but real challenge is to those questions in just 4 hours. To solve the paper within stipulated time there are some methods to solve the paper.

Step 1: Look at the options, if those are familiar to you?

Step 2: If those are familiar then attempt the question, if not then skip the question for as of now.

If the options are familiar to you, try to rule out the option first without the reading the question itself, following are certain ways to do it.

  • Modifier based rule out: -

    • Modifiers 50 or 51 should not be allowed with add on codes.

    • 91 Modifier for repeat procedure is only allowed with Path code, hence modifiers 76 & 77 are not allowed with Path codes.

    • Certain codes are included into each other; hence those needs to code with 59 Modifiers.

    • Most of the anesthesia can be ruled out based on the modifier, Physical Status modifier (P1 to P6), Qualifying circumstances (+99100, +99116, +99135, +99140) etc.

    • 26 & TC modifier-based rule out.

  • Based on multiplication of CPTs codes.

  • Based on 2 base code, that certain base codes cannot be coded together.

Step 3: Question is familiar then, see what has been asked in the question, this can be narrowed down from the option also. Focus on what has been asked that instead of reading whole story. Strike down the wrong answer in the question paper. Answer paper you to keep clean. Question can be used for rough work.

Certain question needs some calculations, like lesions calculation, area calculations, session or service calculations. When your concepts are clear about the topic then you can easily focus on the question to find the point of interest and get the question through.
